Just a few weeks ago, Hurricane Harvey caused catastrophic damage across Texas as thousands of homes were destroyed by wind and rising flood waters. Many of you know and have family in the Houston area and the outpouring of support for Harvey victims has been incredible in the past few weeks as Houston struggles to recover! It’s in difficult times like this that we are proud to call Houston home. There have been so many examples of Houstonians caring for each other and for the world caring for Houstonians.
In Houston’s Fifth Ward, an area often overlooked and underrepresented, the road to recovery will be long and difficult. Many residents of this area struggle to make ends meet and live paycheck to paycheck, often supported by faith based organizations like Farrington Mission who provide a helping hand to those in need. Harvey was particularly destructive in Houston’s Fifth Ward and Farrington Mission took on nearly 30 inches of water. The place we call home and the place where we serve clients and help those who need it most was destroyed. After processing the damage and the shedding of tears, it is time to rebuild. Houston’s Fifth Ward is in desperate need of the ministry that takes place at Farrington Mission. We have begun the process of rebuilding our facility so that we can continue to provide hope and support to a community that desperately needs it.
We thank our friends across the country and around the world who have sent messages of support, sent trucks of food and clothes, and have expressed a desire to help rebuild. Your outpouring of support has been tremendous. Many of you have asked how you can give financially. This campaign was set up for people who desire to give to help rebuild Farrington Mission. Our needs are many but we also know that God has a plan in all of this. The total cost to repair the mission is going to be well over $100,000. We are so thankful for your partnerships, love, and financial support.
Please keep the men and women working tirelessly to rebuild Farrington Mission and restore her ministries there in your prayers. As we look forward, our goal will be to rebuild Farrington Mission and begin to provide the key services this community needs!
